Badminton Racket Under 2500: Buying Guide

The selection of a badminton racket depends on four factors

  1. Playing Level
  2. Playing style
  3. Player’s preference
  4. Budget

Apart from price, the other three factors are influenced by the following categories.

Weight: The weight of a badminton racket is within the range of 60 – 100 grams. The heavier rackets are able to provide more force but are difficult to handle. These rackets are not recommended to Beginners or Intermediate players as there is always a probability of shoulder or wrist injury.

A 4U (80 – 84.9 grams) category racket is best for playing both singles and doubles.

Flexibility: The flexibility of a racket refers to the shaft stiffness. A stiff racket recovers faster than a flexible racket. A stiff racket requires more arm power to get the best out of it. Advanced players with good techniques prefer stiff rackets for singles. For beginners and intermediate players, flexible or medium flexible rackets are easy to handle.

Balance: The balance of a racket refers to the center of gravity of the racket from the base of the handle. The balance of a badminton racket is three types, head heavy, head light, and even balanced.

Balance point of a badminton racket
Balance Point
  • Head Heavy: > 295 mm
  • Head Light: 285 – 295 mm
  • Evan Balanced: <285 mm

Head-heavy rackets have the ability to generate more power whereas it is easy to maneuver head-light rackets.  For beginners, it is always better to start with an even-balanced racket, while doubles players enjoy playing with head-light rackets.

String Tension: High string tension is good for control and feels whereas rackets with low string tension give more power but have less control.
