What is the Official Badminton Net Height?

The proper badminton net height may not be important when you are playing the game for entertainment. But for serious badminton, if the height of the net is set high, your good smashes and drop shots may be dashed against the net, and for low height, shots become so easy to play that makes it difficult to distinguish between a good and a bad player.

A badminton net is a central divider of a court, fixed with posts placed on the sidelines. It acts as a barrier between the two players and to continue a rally, a shuttlecock must pass over the net.

  • A net is made of a fine cord with a mesh of 15 – 20 mm. A cable or cord is attached at the top of the cord mesh for the purpose of tensioning the net. This cable or cord is covered with 75 mm white tape.
  • The color of the cord should be dark to increase the visibility of the top white tape.
  • In both singles and doubles, the badminton net is attached with posts and placed on the doubles sideline.
  • The net, fixed with the top of the posts, should be stretched enough to maintain the proper height.
  • There should be no gap between posts and the end of the net.
