What are the Dimensions of a Pickleball Court?

Pickleball, a hybrid of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, is one of the fast-growing sports in the USA in recent years because of its wide adaptability among all age groups mainly as a recreational play. It’s easy to play and fun for everyone! To start playing the game, it is essential to have an idea of the dimensions of a pickleball court.

A standard pickleball court has the same size as a badminton court which is 20 ft by 44 ft. The suspension arrangement of the net is similar to a tennis net. The net height is 34 inches in the middle and 36 inches at the posts. The minimum recommended playing surface is 30 ft by 60 ft.

This post is written with the intention to present a detailed measurement analysis (with pictures) to get things more convenient for you.

Let’s see some common terminologies used to visualize the size of a pickleball court.

Baseline: It refers to the boundary lines parallel to the net at each end of the court.

Sideline: Sidelines are the boundary lines perpendicular to the net that meet baselines on each side of the court.

Non-volley Line: The line parallel to and at a distance of 7 ft (2.13 m) from the net that meets each sideline

Non-volley Zone: The area bounded by the non-volley line, sidelines, and the net is referred to as Non-volley-zone (NVZ).

Centerline: The line that draws perpendicularly from the center of the baseline up to the non-volley line

Service Area: It is the area beyond the non-volley zone on either side of the centerline including the baseline, sideline, and centerline.

Measurement of the Non-Volley-Zone

Non-volley zone size
Non-Volley Zone Area
  • Area of the Non-Volley Zone = Length of Non-volley line (NVL) x Distance of NVL from net
  • Length of the Non-Volley Line = 20 ft (6.10 m)
